Horrible

by MAV1973 @ 07/11/2005 - 21:52:57

We went to an NCT sale at the weekend. Horrible, horrible hateful experience.

Essentially, this is a jumble sale for kids stuff. It's a good idea, because you get cheap baby stuff. It's a bad idea, because it turns rational adults into violent morons. For instance, I saw a couple who are friends with my parents there, presumably shopping for grandkids stuff. They didn't recongnise me. I can't help but wonder - had he recognised me, do you think he'd have apologised for hitting me in the back with the box he was carrying. Or would he have ignored me and acted as if nothing happened (which was what he really did). Then there was the woman who grabbed something out of my wife's hand. Or the three woman who all dived for a jacket as my wife put it down...still, we did get a lovely suede jacket and three toys which would have cost 3 times what we paid had we gone to the ELC...

Another new arrival

by MAV1973 @ 07/11/2005 - 21:46:49

Our life right now seems dominated by babies. They're coming thick and fast. So just a quick post to congartulate our friends in the Caribbean, on the safe arrival of Matthew. :D

Growing up

by MAV1973 @ 02/11/2005 - 20:59:13

My wee girl started nursery today. a big day for her, but also for us. probably more so for us than her, I guess. We will remember it, she won't.

My wee girl was at nursery for a hour this morning. Part of an induction, for her starting 3 days a week from Wednesday.

It seems like a good place, we certainly hope it is. It's a big change for her and us. Next week could a bit nerve-wracking, maybe even a bit tearful, but I'm looking forward to it. It's exciting watching her grow up, and making friends is part of that

McLeish Out

by MAV1973 @ 26/10/2005 - 21:44:15

I don't like doing this. But it's time for him to go. Livi 2 Rangers 2. But its not just that. Its that lack of a preferred shape, style, tactics, anything. The inability to solve what are longstanding problems - the left side of the midfield, a goal scorer. The bad signings as well as the good. Fan Fan being the latest of the worst. What's the best team you can pick from Rangesr squad? Dunno. Neither does McLeish. But my problem is that I can't see enough Rangers quality players in our mediocre squad. And that squad is McLeish's. Last years title papered over the cracks. A bad team beat a dying celtic team. We needed major surgery in some areas, but he signed 3 new centre backs, a defensive midfielder and a couple of big forwards. We had all them. We needed a left back and left midfield. We got Bernard (not good enough) and Murray (bench player). Sorry. Not good enough. Good bye.

Timing: it sucks

by MAV1973 @ 26/10/2005 - 21:11:30

Three posts in one day - I won't keep this up.

I've been thinking a lot over the last few days about timing - how bad things seem to time themselves for the worst possible time.

The catalyst for this has been a friend of mine, or rather the death of a father of a friend of mine last week. My mate lives abroad. When he moved abroad he and his wife gave a good bit of thought to what would happen in these circumstances. They figured that flights would always be available and provided they kept som emoney back, they could get back at 48 hours notice anytime.

Now, timing has gone against them. There are never good times, but this is the only time they can't go back. Why? Because in the next week or two, they'll become parents for the first time. It is the only time they couldn't have gone back for the funeral, and made even worse by the fact it happened just before, not just after the birth, meaning his dad never found out what they had.

Like I say, timing sucks.

A little bit more (about me)

by MAV1973 @ 26/10/2005 - 20:59:27

Lets see now. What can I tell you. I think the bare minimum, and you can pick the rest up as you go along. Here's all I'm going to give now.

I'm in my early thirties,

I'm married. I'm wondering whether I should give her a nickname/persona, or just use her name. I still haven't decided, so I'll hold back. I'll try and be a bit less insulting than Terry Wogan, who refers, I'm told, to his wife as the current Mrs Wogan.

I have a daughter, who is 6 months old. She's cool.

I also have a dog and two cats. No anonymity for them. Toby is the dog, Spartacus and Sophie the cats.

That'll do for now.

The road goes ever on

by MAV1973 @ 26/10/2005 - 20:30:59

but every road has to start somewhere, I guess. I'm sitting upstairs, the Rangers game on the BBC website (1-0 up as I type this), taking a faltering first step. Much, I guess, like my daughter will in a few months time, wondering where it will lead.
